Spring Retreat with Doshin Houtman

Two Retreats with Doshin Houtman

The desert is a beautiful place to practice awareness of the senses, and to discover what all is happening at the sense doors. It is not just about facts: most important is to discover what imprisons us and what brings freedom.

Dhamma Dena Work Retreat, March 1-6, 2019

It is becoming a tradition for members of the sangha and friends of Dhamma Dena to come together for 5 days of work on needed upgrades and repairs to the center. Practicing in this work retreat is very close to daily life practice. There will be time to investigate the body-mind process, to see what all is going on during work, and what is going on in the interactions with each other. We will be working together for a half day, and practicing meditation and mindful movement the other half day. During the sittings, we will be asked to “drop” all attachments to the tasks we are involved in. There will be Dharma instructions and Dharma talks daily, with space for individual guidance.

Vipassana Retreat March 8-15, 2019

This embodied mindfulness retreat focuses on investigation of the body-mind process as well. During this retreat there is more formal practice: mindful movements, sitting and walking, mindful eating. Because we are in silence now, it is possible to discover the more subtle movements in body and mind. There will be also Dharma instructions and Dharma talks and there is space for individual guidance.

Doshin Houtman is a dharma teacher in both Zen and Vipassana. She started her practice in the Zen tradition, and was ordained as a nun by Prabhasa Dharam Roshi. She found her heart teacher in Ruth and trained with her for many years. Doshin lives in the Netherlands where she leads a Vipassana community, guiding people in embodied mindfulness.
